Streaks, the Eastern clock and the archive

A daily game needs one clear answer to “what day is it?”. Ours is midnight in New York.

One clock for everyone

The daily flight changes at midnight US Eastern time (America/New_York), at the same instant all over the world. That means the same seven prompts for everyone and results you can compare with friends in another country. For visitors in the UK it changes at 5 am (4 am during the weeks when the two countries’ clocks differ); on the US West Coast it changes at 9 pm. The countdown on the home screen always shows the time left on this one clock, and daylight saving is handled automatically.

How streaks work

Finish the daily flight on its own date and your streak grows by one. Miss a date and the streak resets to zero the moment the next date begins. Your best streak is remembered even after a reset. There is nothing to pay and no account to make: your streak is worked out from the flights saved in your own browser.

If you have not played yet today, your streak is still alive until midnight Eastern. The stats panel shows your current streak, best streak, flights, average and best score.

The archive is free, and never counts

Every past daily stays playable from the Archive, once per date, at no cost. Archive flights are for fun and practice; they never extend a streak, because the streak is meant to reward showing up on the day. A flight you start on its date but finish after midnight also counts as an archive flight.

Common questions

I travelled to another time zone. Does that change anything? No. The clock is the same wherever you are, so flying to Tokyo does not give you an extra day or take one away.

Why not use my own midnight? Because then a player in Sydney would see tomorrow’s prompts while a player in Los Angeles was still on today’s, and sharing results with friends would spoil the day. One clock keeps everyone on the same flight.

Can I recover a broken streak? No. A streak that you can buy back or edit stops meaning anything, so there is no repair. Your best streak is kept, and a new one can start any day.

What if I finish a few seconds after midnight? The flight is saved and its results are yours, but it counts as an archive flight, because it was finished on the next date.

Your data stays with you

Streaks, stats and settings are saved only in this browser. Clearing site data, using a private window or switching device starts you fresh. That is the trade-off for having no accounts. Read the privacy policy for exactly what is stored.
